Whispered Interpreting

Whispered interpreting or chuchotage is a type of simultaneous interpreting: the interpreter is positioned beside or behind the targeted listeners and whispers the translation. The advantage of this technique is that technical equipment is not requires (unlike for simultaneous interpreting). Each interpreter can whisper their translation to a limited number of people (generally two or three). Given that whispering puts strain on the interpreter’s voice and given that they cannot rely on a soundproof booth, they can only use this technique for a limited amount of time.
